Currently, Smartsheet allows only one Start Date and one End Date to generate a Gantt bar or milestone. However, many projects involve several key milestone dates such as approval dates, review checkpoints, testing completion, and launch readiness. These milestones are often stored in separate columns within the same row, but they cannot all be visualized simultaneously in the Gantt or Timeline view. This limitation requires users to create additional helper rows, duplicate data, or redesign their sheet structure just to display multiple milestone events.
The enhancement I would propose is a feature that allows users to select multiple date columns and display them as milestone markers on the same project row in the timeline. For example, if a project has columns for Gate Review 1, Gate Review 2, Design Approval, and Go-Live Date, Smartsheet should allow all these dates to appear as milestone icons along the same timeline bar.
This improvement would provide several benefits. First, it would significantly improve project visibility for leadership and stakeholders, especially in portfolio or PMO dashboards where multiple milestone checkpoints need to be tracked across many projects. Second, it would reduce the need for complex workarounds such as helper rows or additional sheets, improving data structure simplicity and maintainability. Third, it would enhance reporting capabilities by allowing reports to display richer timeline information without restructuring the source data.
Overall, this enhancement would make Smartsheet more powerful for project portfolio management, executive reporting, and milestone tracking, helping teams visualize progress and decision points more clearly within a single unified view.
I am doing Bidding unit process flow where this data will be handled by requester but there is bidding decision and should go for bid or not all these theing will be in 1 row bbut all the timeline and progress i want to see in same line if i have only 1 planned start and end date it will be difficult to configure this kind of work
