Alert Email Triggers a Checkbox

Hello everyone! New to the community, but loving how detailed Smartsheet is! I am setting up alerts to trigger when a due date is approaching, 6 months, 3 months and 1 month to staff whose certifications will expire on that date.

I would love for the alert to trigger an additional action, to check a box in the cell corresponding to the cell on that row, as an extra assurance that the alert had been sent, and which alerts have been sent, up to the void date of the certification.

Is this a possible action/feature?

    Hi Jayson,

    Interesting!

There isn't a way to do it without using a workaround (see below) or a third-party service like Zapier or the Smartsheet API, and even with those, I don't know if it's possible.

Great idea! Please submit an Enhancement Request when you have a moment

Thinking about a little more it would be possible to set it up with an Approval workflow instead because the status changes automatically it gets sent, and we could use that to indicate that to check a box.

    Would that work?

I also have an idea of how to set it up with Zapier. Is that an option for you?

    Hope that helps!

    Have a fantastic weekend!

    Best,

Thanks Andree, I looked into the 'Request Approval' option, and it looks like I can set it up to change the cell to 'Sent' when the email goes out. The approval option itself (linked through the 'View Request' button on the email) is now changed to 'message received!' and 'I need help...', both of which alter the cells to let me know. Other than that the information in the notification is all the same.

Thanks for the tip! I also submitted an 'Enhancement Request' per your suggestion. I've already got another idea for unsubcription notifications, and know I know where to submit it. :)
