Back Tracking Dates

I am trying to create a formula that can generate a date 2 weeks prior to a set date. For example:

9/1/17 - 14 days = 8/18/17

I assumed the formula would be as simple as "=[cell w/ given date] - 14" but it will not work and the column is a Date Type.

Any suggestions?

The formula would look like this if it had a space in the column name:

=[Date column name]1 - 14

If you column did not have spaces then it would look like this:

=DateColumnName1 - 14.

Both columns would have to be Date Column types.

Warning: if you are attempting to apply it to a date that is coming from a linked cell, you will get an error. This appears to be a bug. $:\$

This rings a bell. Is the linked date coming from a Date cell and linking to a Date cell?
