Bar code scanner not capturing actual bar code only numbers/text

I am trying to build an inventory/stock management sheet but i cannot scan the actual bar code image into the sheet.

I have tried using an Iphone XR and a Samsung Galaxy S9 with no luck on wither.

It will only scan the numbers and/or text. I have tried over ten different bar codes on various items with no luck.

Please help. This is a major hurdle.

Hi Kristian,

Unfortunately, it's not possible at the moment to add barcode pictures by scanning, but it's a great idea!

Please submit an Enhancement Request when you have a moment.

As a workaround, you could use a Google Sheet solution to create the barcode images and then add those to Smartsheet.

Would that work?

I have a "master inventory" sheet of sorts, and I simply attached a picture of the barcode in a column I just called "Barcode".

Yes, you can, of course, take a picture of the barcode and save that, but I think what's asked for is probably a clean barcode picture.

Good workaround nevertheless!

Yes. Having the "clean" barcode displayed on the sheet would be nice. To keep things looking half decent, I have to crop and resize each of my images to make sure all of the barcodes appear to be the same size and whatnot. I ended up getting the most consistent results using the barcode "font" in Excel then using the cell outline as a guide for a snippett. My snippetts save as .png files, so I am able to easily display them in a cell in SS from there.

It's possible to automate it with the help of Goggle Sheets so you don't have to crop any pictures.

I'm going to have to dig into this. While my current system is working pretty smoothly, everything that can be automated is one less thing that I have to worry about forgetting.
