Hi

I have a column with a long URL http://blblblblbl... There are about 300 rows in the sheet. I'd like to change the display text of the links to Preview for all of them.

Is there a way? I can not do this one by one. (multiple sheets with the same set up).

Thanks

    Hi,

There currently isn't a way to change all of these URLs to include display text across all of your sheets all at once in a batch update.

You might consider updating one cell with the display text and URL, then drag filling down or using copy and paste (ctrl + c and ctrl + v) to make the change on a sheet by sheet basis. More info on these methods can be found in the help center: https://help.smartsheet.com/articles/518318-using-copy-paste

    Staubm,

I think I know your problem, and have a way to fix it.  If I understand correctly, you want to display the friendly text for the url "GoHere" instead of the full hyperlink "https://123.mrsupercalifragilisticexpialidocious.com/home/GoHere"

Here are the steps: (takes about 5min per sheet)

    1. Export your Smartsheet to Excel and format all of your hyperlinks the way you like them.  Save it as .xls

    2. Do a Save-As on this Excel sheet and save it as file type .html

    3. Open the .html file in a web browser and do a Ctrl+A to select all, then Ctrl+C to copy.

    4. Open a brand new .xls file and paste into the new .xls file.  Save

    5. Import your excel file into Smartsheet and then copy/paste your column from the imported sheet into your original sheet.  Voila!

Don't ask me how I figured that one out.  It was frustration and luck :)
