When auto-save after 3 minutes is on, a sheet with the TODAY() formula in use will auto-save on initial open after a few seconds.

While this may be a "feature", it needs to be divorced from the 3 minutes of inactivity feature.

  • Hi Craig,

The TODAY() function must update at least once per day, depending on the time that someone opens the sheet. This will trigger a save if the TODAY() function returns a different date value. (Open the sheet for the first time today and you'll need to save, open the sheet for the first time tomorrow and you'll need to save again.)

A tricky addition to this is that if someone else opens the sheet and they're in a different time zone, they may return a different result to the sheet, and will therefore warrant another save.

I've got your vote down for the TODAY() function to operate differently, but currently, this is the way the function works.

    Shaine,

    You misunderstand the bug report.

    Auto-save Settings are

    [] Auto-save after 3 minutes of inactivity

[] Auto-save my changes when I leave a sheet, report, or Sight.

If the sheet has the TODAY() formula, and the first configuration item is set, the sheet will auto-save immediately when opened NOT the duration set.

Either it should auto-save after the duration passes (if set) or not at all (if not).

The sheet no longer auto-saves immediately with the first config item off.

Oh! Sorry about the confusion on my part.

I thought you were referring to the sheet requiring a save (Save button turns blue) as opposed to the sheet automatically saving as the sheet opens. That behavior is odd.

You may need to work with our Support team, if you're not already, as they can troubleshoot the bug further and file the bug for our Development team to fix: https://help.smartsheet.com/contact

    I have a work-around.

I've been able to reproduce it without fail in two accounts, so it should be easy to replicate by them.
