Chart Padding Still Excessive

Hello,

I noticed a new enhancement (April?) explained that charts with data points as percentages (%) will no longer included excessive padding.  I still seem to have excessive padding in my chart.  See attached screenshots.

The columns are in text/number so not sure what the issue is.

Thank you.

  • Hello,

Thanks for reaching out! You are correct that in one of our April releases we released an enhancement that removed excessive padding from Charts with percentage (%) data points.

Prior to the release, Charts with data points as percentages included excessive padding for scale. After the release, the excessive padding should no longer be applied. However, by default charts will still include optimal padding. For example, when the vertical axis increases in 20% increments, the chart should include around 20% padding instead of 100% padding. Since your vertical axis is split up into increments of 50%, it is expected that your charts would include an additional 50% of padding.

If you would like to completely remove the padding then you can do so by editing the chart widget, and under Vertical Axis check the "Scale to data values" option. This will remove any optimal padding from the chart. Please see the attached screenshot for more information on adjusting this setting.

For more information on working with the Chart Widget, I also recommend checking out this article from our Help Center: https://help.smartsheet.com/articles/2476691-compare-live-data-with-a-chart

Please let me know if you have any questions about this and I’ll be more than happy to advise further!

  • Hi Kelsey,

I clicked on the "Scale to data values" option. This did not remove any optimal padding from the chart. I tried it on multiple charts that go to 150% and did not change anything...  Any ideas?

  • Hi Chris,
