Is automated workflow supposed to be slow?

Hi, I've recently been using Smartsheet and discovered the Automated Workflow feature. At first glance I thought it didn't work but after saving and thinking for 30 seconds, the sheet updated. My sheet is almost empty, I only made one to test the automated workflow and added a single command. How is it that it takes a whole 20 to 30 seconds to react and can I do something about it?

I think it says that it can be up to 15 minutes before a change is registered, but I've never experienced it being that long.
