# COUNTIF Formula quesion

01/14/22
Accepted

I have 2 columns with 1st PROJECTS and 2nd PROJECT FEES and want to have a formula find projects with a particular name and add up the fees for those projects from the second column.

For instance find projects that contain "renovations" and add up the fees from the second column project fees. I was under the impression that countif would do the trick but keep getting an error message

Hi Simon!

COUNTIF would supply you with the number of jobs that meet your criteria. I believe you need a SUMIF formula to total the fees.

Try this:

=SUMIFS([PROJECT FEES]:[PROJECT FEES], PROJECTS:PROJECTS, CONTAINS("renovations", @cell))

Let me know if that doesn't work for you.
