Gantt dependency Start/End Dates not populating?

I have a Gantt Chart with dependencies enabled.  When I shift the entire start date of the project all the dates shift appropriately so I believe it's working well.

 

I've just inserted a new row and assigned a Predecessor Row and Duration.  The bar appears to the right and dependency lines are drawn.  However the Start and End Date cells remain blank.  Would appreciate any help troubleshooting this -

    Diana,

     

    Is there a value in the Duration field?

    To auto-popuate data, two of the three columns (Start Date, End Date, Duration) must be populated. I'm surprised it did not pick up the Start Date from the Predecessor's finish date, but it might be 0 Duration. Or maybe you need to save the sheet first.
