Search Results - intuitive vs exact match?

This has come up a few times (okay, probably quite often!) as to whether there will be a development for the search function to be able to return results for "close match" vs exact spelling. For instance, we were looking for an entry where the last name erroneously had an "s" added to the end. We were looking for the singular format, but Smartsheet didn't return it as a hit since it wasn't an exact match. (Bear vs Bears, for instance.)

Is this on the development dashboard?

    Have you tried using the option Contains,  This will give you a range of hits that contain the criteria, including ones with an extra s on the end.

    Loann - The search box is looking for more exact results, although your example should work. If you searched for “Bear” but it was added as “Bears” in your sheet, you should find it. However, if you searched for “Bears” but it was “Bear” in your sheet, you wouldn’t get any results. You could use filters with the Contains option JamesR mentioned. Right click on the column header containing the term you are searching for and select Filter Column. Create a filter, looking for your term, “Bear” and select the Contains option.

    Thanks for the input - the search I was doing was across all of our sheets as I needed to know if we had this particular name located anywhere in our information.

    The name I search for was Lyon, but it was entered as Lyons, yet it didn't return the result. Perhaps it was just a glitch in the system at the time. 
    Using the "contains" option is just per sheet, correct?

    The Contains option is available for filtering (not search) which wouldn’t work if you were looking across multiple sheets. You could build a report to look across all your sheets for a cell that contains “Lyon”.
