Conditional formatting rules and user-based formatting

Hi,

If I set up a rule that all past due dates are color-coded red, but somebody else goes in and changes the text color to blue, will it override the conditional formatting? Can I lock it so that it can't be changed?

Monica,

Two competing things here.

Cell/row/column formatting is what you see if no conditional formatting is active*.

What you (normally) see when looking at a sheet is the cell/row/column formatting overwritten as determined by the conditional formatting.

So, if your user colors everything blue and there is a rule that says dates in the past will be red, then everything will be blue EXCEPT the dates are in the past.

Be aware that conditional formatting for a particular item is a first-come-first-serve thing. If you have a rule that says the column is red when a date colum is in the past and another that that says the whole row is blue when something else is true, you migtht see a row that is blue with a red column.

No, you can't prevent another admin from changing the rules.

*active means enabled. Conditional formatting can be disabled in the dialog box.

Just to clarify what Craig says about conditional formatting. The rules at the top of the list out rant all the rules below them. i.e. If you have 10 rules then rules rule 5 is out ranked by rules 1-4 but out ranks rows 6-10.
