  • Agreed.  This is a feature I have been hoping for.  Looks well done so far.

I was so excited when I switched on my PC this morning and logged into Smartsheet and read the notification about the new improvements!!  This would answer so many of the limitations I have experienced since introducing Smartsheet into our organisation.  But sadly so far the email notifications have not worked.

I have done two tests - one on updated rows where my initials appear in a column and one for comments that have been updated, changed or deleted.  It is now 4 hours and the emails still haven't made it through.  Our Outlook exchange server is working fine and I am receiving other emails and I have checked my junk box....just in case.

Is anyone else experiencing similar issues?

    Can anyone offer any advice?

Did you go into your personal settings to enable "Include my changes in sheet notifications"?

    Natalie -

If you are making changes yourself, by default, you will not receive notifications on those changes.  With this release however, we also added a personal setting that enables you in essence to test your own rules.  (I too have faced your situation in the past -- why aren't they working when I make a change -- only to then remember that they are triggered when others make a change)

Pls see this new entry by our support team: https://help.smartsheet.com/articles/542904-using-notifications#own_change

To avoid new users from being perplexed, this toggle is now 'on' by default with the option for folks to tun it off. We didn't toggle it on for all existing users b/c we felt they would be surprised by suddenly receiving many (unexpected) notifications.

Hope this tip helps you enjoy the feature and get more value from Smartsheet!

  • What a great improvement!! Made the kick off of using Smartsheet this week that much better! Now for those VLOOKUPS across sheets and it will be all that we have been looking for! Laughing

Stephanie and Mark - thank you very much!  I completely missed the requirement to switch this on in my personal settings, which I have now done, so am grateful to you both for pointing this out..

I knew that before this update we were unable to get notifications on our own changes.  For 'testing' purposes, it is helpful to have this feature, but also this will considerably cut down my time for reporting all changes on a weekly basis to the team - as to date I have only been able to achieve this by exporting data from a report and the comments from the sheet and running a macro in excel to end up with a summary document that shows all changes made since the last team gathering.

I have now done a similar test as stated previously and this time I have received an email (very excited!) but one email only.  The comment amendment didn't trigger an email on it's own, and I can only assume that is because a comment doesn't require the sheet to be saved.  However making the second amendment and saving the sheet did trigger the notification and both updates were highlighted on the one email.

So my next questions is - if only a comment is added, deleted or updated what is required in order to trigger the noitfication email?

Thanking you kindly for your help.

Thanks Mark for not setting the new default to apply to the old notifications.

It is too often that change is overlooked and backward capatabilty is thrown out the window. It is appreciated.

In order to proceed, it would be nice to have a master list of all notifications at a higher level than the sheet level. I'm pretty sure we don't have that even using the API unless I overlooked it.

Thanks also to taking the time to stop by. That too means a lot.

Yup, it;s a winner.  I was using separate reports for all this stuff, but now those go out the window.  Good riddance!

Just a quick poke to the dev team:  Multi-select drop downs....please!  Using checkboxes to cover this oversight is soooooo Mickey Mouse.

    Thanks

Thank you for being the highlight of my week. I have been requesting this feature for over a year. AND you added the ability to send a custom email with the notification of changes - this is so crucial to our workflow.

  • Yep - this one was huge. Thanks Smartsheet! You really do listen to your community.

Did anyone else notice that their workspace branding is now gone from their notifications?

We had a nice layout for ours, but now it is defaulted to the standard SS logo Cry

  • Hi all,

I have been having issues with conditional notifications set for Managers based on the regions they oversee. Instead of receiving notifications right away when changes apply to any of their region's projects, they receive notifications for any change made on the sheet. Sometimes they even receive notifications for changes that didn’t happen.

The data in this sheet is mostly based on linked cells coming from other sheets.

I have done some research through the community and other resources available and haven’t been able to find an answer.

I would appreciate if you can help me solve this issue.

    Thanks!
