Copy/Paste rows changed "created date"

I had to copy and paste a few rows within one of my sheets.  When I did, it changed the "Created" date and time to when I pasted the rows.

How do you ensure that this column always reflects the proper date, if rows have to be copied and pasted?

Thanks

    Kelly,

The Created (Date) and Created By columns are based on the row, not the data in the row. If that makes sense.

If you have Row 1 and created it yesterday, then its Created (Date) / By columns will show yesterday as long as that row exists.

If you copy the row to another row, then you have created a NEW row, even if the data in the other columns is the same. That means this row has new Created (Date) / By values. There is no memory of where the row came from, only which user (or via WebForm) the row came from.

If you need to need to track that data, you'll need to add another column to capture the information but in such a way to prevent it from updating when copied.
