create row synchronously between sheets

Hi,

 

Sheet A has the original data, which contains customer name, address, phone number, and other personal informations.  And sheet B's data is linked from sheet A, only link customer name, address, phone number columns.

I'd like to share only sheet B with other staff cause sheet A has too many personal informations.

Could sheet B create a new row synchronously when sheet A is creating a new row?

    Hello David,

     

    There are several ways to do this:

     

    - You could share the sheet A directly with the other staff. Just be sure to hide the 'secret' columns, every time you save sheet A. You actually only need sheet A for this 'quick' - solution.

    - If sheet B is a Smartsheet-report in stead of a sheet, then you could add the Sheet A columns to this report B. For this solution the other staff needs to have rights for Sheet A also.

     

    For both of the above, you will need to take care about hiding the 'secret' columns every time you save Sheet A.

     

    If you actually need 2 sheets in stead of a sheets-reports-combination and you do not want a manual hiding columns-action, then I would suggest using Zapier. This way the Sheets will have no relation what so ever. The downside of this solution is of course, that, besides an add-row in Sheet A results in an add-row in Sheet B, there is no other synchronisation.

    Maaik, I would not recommend the 'hide column' trick. While all shared users might be diligent about keeping columns hidden, any users - regardless of sharing access - can export the sheet to Excel and see the hidden columns. 

     

    Zapier is a good suggestion, a Zap can be created to copy over specific data/columns from Sheet A to Sheet B when a new row is added to Sheet A.

     

    Another option is Cell Linking which would be set up manually each time a new row is added but will create a live sync between the sheets.

    Zaps don't have to wait for an Add Row trigger, they can also be set up to trigger on changes.

    Depending on your needs, it might even be free (the free version works for me - so far, but I'm nearing the need to start paying for it)
