Designating Focal Date in Calendar View

Does anyone know if it's possible to have the calendar automtically use a date prior to today's date as the focus when displaying the 1 month, 3 week, 2 week, etc., display?  By default, it displays the current week at the top of the calendar whenever the calendar is opened.  Also, whenever I refresh the browser, the calendar jumps to the current week.  I would really like to be able to have the calendar display the week prior to the current week by default.

I currently have a computer hooked up to a large flat screen in my office and am using the calendar view to display the status of each of the tasks.  Inevitably, some of the tasks from the prior week may not yet be completed.  Keeping the prior week visible helps us to focus on those tasks until they are completed.

I manually select the block of weeks on the calendar which displays the prior week.  However, the browser is set to auto-refresh every 5 minutes so that most current status is always displayed.  When it auto-refreshes, Smartsheet then makes the current week the focus and the prior week is no longer visible.

Does anyone know of a solution for this?

Thanks,
Ben Hughes

  • Thanks for the reply, Richard.

I do have the settings specified as you have them in the graphic above.  However, whenever I refresh, it still puts this week at the top of the calendar, making the prior week not visible.  Any other ideas?

Any workaround that you can think of that, upon refreshing the browser, would force the calendar to show the week prior to the current week?

    Thanks,
    Ben

    Hi Ben

i have 2 suggestions for you...

    1. Drop your query to Support@smartsheet.com and see if we have missed anything thy can help you with? but...

2.Assume we havent missed something in Smartsheet, why not use Google Calendar and take a feed from your sheet synced with Google, which still allows your to modify tasks from Google back in to Smartsheet, but you should have more control of the calendar? Then show the Google calendar version on the big screen and when that refreshes, (I dont think it will reset to this week but) I suggest you test it for yourself.

If you are a Microsoft user with no Google account, just a Free one for this purpose will do, or you can send a one way (send only) version to Outlook or both?

    Hope I have helped?

    Regards RichardR

  • Thanks for the input Richard.  I've now experimented with the Google calendar functionality and while it may be a nice option in many scenarios, I'm using conditional formatting in the Smartsheet calendar (for visually indicating which tasks are assigned to which accountant and for indicating in the calendar when tasks are complete).  This conditional formatting doesn't flow over to the Google Calendar, so I'll stick with Smartsheet for now...  I'll try email a query to Smartsheet.

    Thanks!
