Dropdowns in a dashboard, is it possible?

I have one sheet that has metrics for a few of my employees, I was hoping there was a way to get the drop down menu function for each employee transferred onto a Dashboard highlighting everyone's metrics.

*The drop downs show their total sales for each month, and even quarter, down to how many projects they have completed per month.

    Hi Nico,

I can think of a few ways to set it up.

Can you tell me more details on what you want to do?

    Have a fantastic week!

  • Essentially I want a dashboard with data collected from the sheet I have shown in the thread. Thing is there are other employees on the list (about 4) that are included in rows below Billy's.

I'd really like the drop downs which are in the "Month" column to actively effect the data in the other cells once linked to the dashboard. I'd really like the drop down that would be in the dashboard to work and effect the data in the respected cell.

I have written a solution like this recently for a customer, but I used a Grid sheet for it and not a Dashboard.

If you want it in a Dashboard you could potentially achieve this I believe in PowerBI, I don't believe Smartsheet have this functionality in their dashboards yet!  Do you have access PowerBI?  It does link with Smartsheet.

Happy to discuss further if you'd like.

    Ok.

Yes, it's possible to set it up, but it's relatively advanced, and I need to have a better understanding on how you've built your sheet and dashboard up, and for it to work we might need to structure it in another way.

    Are you up for it?

  • Debbie!

Thank you, we've actually been looking at that very software, and your comment might prove one of our arguments in using it! I'm going to make some time during the weekend or so to research BI a little bit more!

As for the grid view versus dashboard, currently it's in grid format, just that I want it in a dashboard for the... utility I guess? My boss a very visual person and likes to have all his information in one spot, with graphs etc.

  • Andree,

I'm definitely up for it, however I'm not sure how to proceed? After everything else I've been through creating this sheet in the first place, this is another step in a direction I'm already heading.

Again, for a different customer I did design a workaround (a bit clunky, but it worked) which provided a "dropdown" in a "dashboard"!

We put a metric for the criteria on the dashboard with interaction that took you to an underlying grid with just 1 cell visible.  When the user selected a different one in the list and saved it, it had updated the dashboard with everything for that metric instead when they navigated back to the dashboard.

It "appeared" as though the dropdown list was on the dashboard, but you just had to pop into the underlying sheet for a second to update the data!

Like I said, a little clunky, but ultimately it got what the customer wanted without having to use Power BI.

    Good luck :)

    Kind regards

    Debbie

  • @Andrée Starå Can you explain the advance solution to set up the Dashboard Filter?

In my particular case, I just need to filter by Quarter 2 charts (source from a Backend Sheet where I make the tables) and a report. Currently the info is displayed for the full year. In the main sheet, I have a column with a dropdown list to select the expected Quarter for a potential deal.

    Thanks!

  • @Andrée Starå I'd benefit from the advanced solution as well! I've got smartsheets full of data, and reports created from them, but I'd essentially like to have a dropdown in a dashboard where I can click on each person's name and look at projects tied to that name. Could you please share the advanced solution? Thanks!

  • @Andrée Starå Could you please share the advanced solution. I am looking for a solution to add a dropdown in the dashboard. Thanks!

@Andrée Starå Could you please share the advance solution. For a more professional outlook of my dashboard I want to add a dropdown solution. Thanks in advance.

  • How do you create a drop down list that will hyperlink to other smartsheets in a dashboard when selected. I created a list of hyperlinks but would like it in a drop down list to consolidate it all.
