Enhancement Request for mobile Sights: Change max. number of widgets shown in one row to 6

Hi Smartsheet,

it would be great if within the mobile version of Sights the maximum number of widgets shown in a row (side by side) would be changed to 6 as in the desktop layout. Currently it looks like it's being fixed to 5 widgets and the consequence is that - due to responsiveness - the layout is totally mixed up...

Ok, workaround could be to built your Sights in a way to have only 5 widgets side by side but that again would unnecessarily restrict the space you use in regards to the space you have on a desktop/monitor and make them look kind of odd...

Great would be to have the ability to fix the layout of a Sight to 6 widgets or switch of the responsiveness if desired. Resolution of modern tablets should be high enough to be able to show 6 widgets in a readable manner. And in the end if it really would be too small one could zoom in... but the layout still would be consistent to the desktop version!

Best

Dietrich

PS: Great update of the mobile version today!!!

Dietrich-- Great question, and apologies for the delay in my response! I've asked our Sights PM to take a look at this post. I'll let you know what I hear, or Daniel will post here :)

    Hi Kennedy,

    any news on this topic?

We have worked hard in setting up great Sights and it's really annoying the seeing them scrambled when using the moblie app...

  • Hi Dietrich,

Thanks for checking in, and apologies for the delay in getting back to you! I definitely understand what you mean.

As you may have noticed, we recently made the layout of widgets for desktop Sights more flexible, so there are no longer 6 columns. Rather, customers can position widgets in a more flexible way wherever they want on the Sight. Given this, and the fact that mobile devices come in a wide range of screen resolutions, we think the best approach to the issue you mention would be to introduce a toggle on mobile. Rather than reflowing the widgets, when the toggle is flipped, we would scale the whole Sight to fit the screen, with the same layout as desktop. Then users could zoom in if needed. Is this what you would expect?

Also, I'd be interested to know the type of mobile device your team typically uses to view the Sights. Do they typically use tablets? Or do folks use their phones more often? One issue with preserving the layout on phones is that the widgets would be quite small, and zooming & panning is not a great experience.

For context: this is an enhancement area we are considering for a future release, but I don't have an ETA to share currently -- we still definitely want to collect your feedback, so thanks again for sharing it.

    Best regards,

    Daniel

    Hi Daniel,

yes, what I thought of is exactly what you describe - scaling the whole sight to fit the screen with the same layout as desktop. So in case it would get to small to read one could zoom in. Both is currently not possibe - the Sight is reflowing the widgets and you can not zoom in with the typical two-finger gesture.

The typical device would be a tablet. But on a smartphone I would handle it the same way (fixed layout, like desktop) - I think it would be more important to have the widgets exactly in the same layout as you have on desktop since you expect them there...

    Best regards,

    Dietrich
