Formula to return the logged in user

Hello,

Is there any formula to post(return) the name of the logged in user?

I am trying to record the user name of the person who checked a box. for example, If I want to post a date when a box was checked, I write: =IF(Closed1 = 1, TODAY(), "")can we have something like =IF(Closed1 = 1, Logged user, "")

I know that there is an automated "Modified By" cells, but this is not what I want.

Hi ME,

You can also right click on the cell and select cell-history to see everything that has happened and who did it.

Would that work/help?

I am also looking for a way to capture the user in a formula. The intent is to create a formula that I can use in creating a metric so that I do not have to create individual metrics per user. If I were able to create one formula that uses the current logged in user, I could then provide one dashboard to all users showing each individual's metrics.

Hi @Kaleb Wade

Would the "Created By" and "Modified By" columns work for you, so you can see who made changes to a sheet? (See here for more information on System Created columns). You could then create a Report across all sheets to bring together all the rows where one specific user made changes/created rows.

If you're just looking to see who's actively logged in to Smartsheet, we don't currently have this functionality. Please submit an Enhancement Request when you have a moment!

In this instance, you could have users fill in a Form when they log in/out in a Metrics sheet, which then auto-populates their email (from the Created By system column) and date/time they filled out the form (from the Created date system column).

It would be helpful to know a bit more about your process if neither of these suggestions will work for you.

Hello, I would also like either a formula that captures the the logged in users info or more flexibility in the Created by/Modified system settings. We have a sheet with four stages on it and each stage we would like to capture the user/date-time stamp without the user having the enter this information (error prone, a pain, unnecessary). While the audit log is useful, many rows will be at various stages at any given time and we would simply like it displayed.

Smartsheet doesn't currently have a timestamp function/column like what you're describing. Please submit an enhancement request when you have a moment!

If you don't need the date/time displayed in the sheet but you just want to check when a change is made, you could check the cell history (see here) by right clicking on any cell, or if your plan has access to it, the Activity Log (see here). Hope this helps!
