Global and Workspace Colors Changed?

Our Smartsheet interface colors are all different today.  Our custom global colors are changed (although the logo is there).

Several workspaces that had custom colors have been changed to match the changed global colors.

Is this something Smartsheet did or have we messed up?

Thanks,

susan

And, as a small PS, is there any way to change the turquoise color that's showing up everywhere?  I don't mean to offend the graphic designer, but less is more, especially when it comes to turquoise.

  • I second that smiley  The turquoise is a bit much and we have been looking for a way to change it as well.

Even bigger than the color is the disappearance of the ability to change the Tab color.  We use the tab color as visual cues to know which Smartsheet (or which workspace) we're working in.  Losing these makes using Smartsheet less efficient.  Please bring back this feature!

Changing the task bar color seems useless since you can set those colors by conditions in any sheet.  Tab color is much more useful.

However, it would be nice if the tab color changed the tab in focus, rather than the ones in the background, but I won't complain if the feature just comes back.

    Thanks!

  • I totally agree!  The overwhelming amount of turquoise on the screen is harsh on the eyes. However, I do like it on the Share and Publish buttons only.

  • I agree!  I like it on the Share button but the rest of the blue is harsh.  It may be just my eyes but it looks like the icons are smaller as well.  Not a huge deal for me but some of my colleagues may have a hard time with the smaller graphics.  And pleeeaaassseee bring back the tab color feature.  We also use this feature as a visual to know which project we are working in.  Thanks

  • Thank you for the feedback! I'll pass it along.

The custom tab color option has been removed. Tabs will now be a slightly different shade than that of the background color and we've updated the color palette as well.

We did this because in the next few months we will be transitioning to using browser tabs and not having a tab system in Smartsheet. This will increase loading speeds when switching between sheets as well as provide more room for you to work within Smartsheet.

    I hope this helps -

    Best,

    Kara

I'd also like to add that the new blue color for hyperlinks is too light and is difficult to read for many people in my office.

    Hi Kara,

Thanks for opening the curtain on the reason for a change.  Does using the browser tabs mean each Smartsheet will open in a separate browser tab?

If so, that seems it will be more complicated to use Smartsheet, especially for those of us who keep many tabs open, but maybe I'm misunderstanding?

Thanks for passing the feedback onto the development team.

    Regards,

Hi Kara, I'm not sure I like the idea of getting rid of the tabs within Smartsheet since the Smartsheet tabs I use daily are always listed across the top of my Smartsheet view with my secondary sheets in the dropdown list on the right. Moving them to browser tabs will require me to have 30 tiny browser tabs or I will frequently have to go Home to find sheets that I only use occasionally on a weekly basis or include them as bookmarks along with the 100 other items I have bookmarked, not user friendly. Unless this is very well thought out I will end up having to use one browser, Chrome for example, with Smartsheet and Safari for everything else, something I would not like to do.

I used to have bad space problems on a number of sheets but I've distributed complex things across two sheets with links between the two to get around the problem. Also, years ago I would occasionally have two Smartsheet tabs open in my browser. I found out the hard way that doing that was dangerous since I could accidentally have the same sheet open in both tabs and cause things to get messed up when I saved them. These days I never have more than one browser tab open with Smartsheet and most of my sheets load within a few seconds when changing tabs and I don't have problems.

  • Thanks for the feedback - please don't be worried about the multiple browser tabs and clogging up the screenspace. Without 'lifting the curtain' too much, it will be a much better and cleaner experience than today, and sheets will be extremely easy to locate (without going to the home tab) and open.

I'll keep you updated if I hear about any changes to the new color palettes -

    Best,

    Kara

  • I couldn't agree more.  We use a number of sheets with hyperlinks that link to other Smartsheets in our setup.  The lighter color blue has been terrible, particularly with some of the conditional formatting we utilize.

I'm also getting complaints of eyestrain with the new hues.

I would like to add my two cents here too. The good UX on SS fell apart on this last update. Not to beat a dead horse, but when developing a UI like SS, UX must be the #1 rule of the road. To have added eye strain to the mix is to ignore basic standards of readability. I have about 50 clients who are complaining to me about the changes. We should not have to put out fires for SS. Total time killer.

I sent in a ticket to support concerning the hyperlink color, and after 36 hours, I got this response. It is laughable.

"The best option will to to change the cells colors where the links are added to make them stand out."

2c, I'm with you. I think Smartsheet UX designers are going after the "trendy" formats regardless of how it impacts existing users who have to make everything easily readable within their organizations. I don't like it when they "fix" things that are not broken. More often than not it causes incremental work for me to restore the look I had created.

Agreed. This tool is all about workplace efficiency, and here lately, it has made me anything but.
