Interconnecting sheets/data?

We are evaluating Smartsheet as a Project Management solution.  I'm wondering if it's possible to have a sheet for "Client Contact List" and then a "Project Management" sheet that can reference it.  For instance, could I create a column called "Contact" and select from my contacts and have it auto-populate other columns such as company?

Hi Scott-- We don't currently offer the ability to populate columns based on the contents of columns in other sheets, but I've added your vote for this to our enhancement request list--thanks for the input.

I believe that one of our top contributors here in the Community, Richard Rymill, has created a workflow using a service called Azuqua to accomplish something similar to this. If this is an integral part of your team's workflow, you might consider reaching out to Richard at richardr@smarterbusinessprocesses.com for more information!

  • It's not an integral part of our workflow as we are still evaluating smartsheet.  This is very disappointing.  Even in Excel I could do a VLOOKUP and accomplish this.  Without this feature it feels like a bunch of disperate, disconnected data.

Thanks for the quick reply though.

Hi Scott-- Happy to help. Another option, though not automated, would be to use Cell Linking to link data from a "reference" type sheet, like your Client Contact List, to an active "Project Management" sheet: http://help.smartsheet.com/customer/portal/articles/861579. Again, not the perfect solution but I realized it didn't mention it before and thought I'd put it out there!
