I have someone who added a new row to a sheet on the iPhone app. The problem is that the row is added to the bottom of the sheet instead of the top where it should be.

Is there a way to specify where they row is added, or is there no way to change this?

    Hi,

Unfortunately, it's not possible at the moment, but it's a great idea!

Please submit an Enhancement Request when you have a moment.

Two possible workarounds could be to either use the insert feature instead in the mobile app or use a form to add the information and change it, so the submissions go to the top of the sheet.

Would any of those options work?

    Have a fantastic day!

    Best,

I would recommend having people add rows via a web form when using their mobile device instead. This way, you do have the option of choosing where the row is placed.

If you create a form within the sheet to capture the information they are trying to add, you can send the web form link to whoever you'd like & they bookmark the url or save it to their mobile devices home screen.

Thanks for responding so quickly! That's upsetting, but maybe I could get her to use a form instead.

I'll submit an Enhancement Request. I would like to see this change made in the future!

    Thanks again!

    Happy to help!

Tell her to try the insert feature as well if you don't want to use a form. It's easy to use.

    Hi,

I wanted to clarify things in this thread as there appears to be a misconception about this capability:

    • As jbradbury put it in their repsonse, if people are submitting new rows if data through a form, you CAN have those new rows added to the top of the sheet. (Thanks for that info jbradbury!) This is true whether they're using the form on their mobile device or on a desktop computer. More information on building a form for your sheet can be found in our help center article.
    • If people are adding rows directly to the sheet on their mobile device, they can add new rows to any location on the sheet! Instruct your users to long press on any cell on the first row and select Insert Above.

I agree with jbradbury in that a form is probably the best way to go, as you'll get consistent results every time.

    Hi Andrée,

This is actually possible and there are a couple of options that this person has to achieve this.

    Hi Shaine,

I know! That's what I wrote or what do you mean?

Your top line of your response indicates that it's not possible:

Unfortunately, it's not possible at the moment, but it's a great idea!

That's a tad misleading as it is possible through a form option or by encouraging people to add rows to the top of the sheet. Sure, there's not currently a direct way to force new rows that are added directly to the sheet to always appear at the top — but there is a way to achieve what they're wanting to do through a form.

(Also, since they stated that someone is constantly adding new rows to the bottom of the sheet, it's likely they're adding new rows through a form.)

I mainly wanted to make sure that the original poster or anyone else who happens upon this thread doesn't get the idea that it isn't possible at all.

    Make sense!

I wrote that further down but I can see that they could miss it, so I'll make it more clear going forward.
