Limit Dropdowns Based on Previous Input

Is there a way to create or limit a dropdown based on input from previous field in Web Forms?  So if the user  chooses makes a selection in Dropdown #1, I want to tailor the options in Dropdown #2.

I I know you can do this in Excel, but now sure here.  Newbie and looked through community and help --any advice would be appreciated.  Thank you!

I have the same question.  I currently have an excel file with different drop down menus.  I don't see a way to do this in Smartsheet....  Only the option tho have a drop down list of the same thing accross all rows?

  • Hi Dina and Ashley--

We don't currently offer the ability to populate dropdown column values based on the selections made in other dropdown columns, but I've added your votes for this to our enhancement request list. Our developers will consider this for a future update. We appreciate your input!

The way to apply conditional logic to your Smartsheet input data is by using one of several choices. Google Forms can use Conditional Logic and populate the results into your Smartsheets, eg if you apply for a Job in Sales you get a different set of questions to that if you select Admin.

The other way is to Use Appsheet to link several Smartsheets together for similar and even better results. We are implementing these solutions with our clients now, if you would like to see these working? Best to have an expert help you set these up to start with and save the pain of self exploration.

Ofcourse if as Kennedy says, Smartsheet can build these solutions into Smartsheet there would be huge demand for them as not everyone can justify the extra cost of greater functionality.

    Hope that helps.

  • Richard, those are great options for workarounds. I have only used our Smartsheet Sync add-on for Google Forms to accomplish this in the past, good to know that this can also be done using Appsheet.

    Hi Kennedy

Your very own Kara Lumley introduced Appsheet to us all a few months ago and Erin Harlan  did a webinar on it too.

We have been experimenting with it to the point that we are now rolling it out to Clients and Appsheet themselves have added more functionality since the webinar. Things like Conditional Logic, Offline access, Signatures, Bar Code scanning, Timesheets are all great uses and extends Smartsheet usage to Excel lovers too. Cool

Hi - is this currently in smartsheet (considering the last comment was in 2016?) - I am looking to do something very similar.

    Thanks,

    Sravya

  • Is there any update on if this function has been added to Smartsheet?

There has been no significant changes in this area.

Smartsheet Forms are not dynamic and do not respond to user's input prior to submission.

  • Just adding my vote for this as well -- would be beneficial as I'm not sure how to sync my Google Forms to my SmartSheet account that isn't google.

  • I'll add my +1 for this.
