No notifications in Board view?

Morning all (8am in NZ!)

Just getting to know Smartsheet, but one thing is killing me at the moment and its i cant seem to get ANY notifications working.

Im running a workflow system using the BOARD view, but have also tried switching to list view and still nothing. No matter what i set up under Alerts and Actions NOTHING works...

Ive also seen people talking about NOTIFICATIONS CENTRE, but I dont seem to have one. I have a notifications section but its literally just there to notify me, i cant set anything up.

Ive emailed SS over the last week TWICE with no response at all, so im hoping someone can tell me what im doing wrong?
