Paste Links to Copied Cells Not Working

When I copy cells from one sheet and paste them onto another, I right-click and want to use the Paste Special > Links to Copied Cells option, but it's often grayed out. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

The info from the other sheet has been saved. The information has been highlighted and copied. I am also selecting the exact number of cells that I want to copy to in the new sheet.

I have 1 destination sheet and many source sheets that I want to pull information from. What's interesting is that using other source sheets, I have successfully pasted this way on the same destination sheet. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Any advice?

Hi,

If I remember correctly, you have to copy in the same tab in the browser at the moment.

Interesting. That does not work, though.

If I'm on my source sheet and copy the cells and then leave the sheet to enter the destination sheet while staying on the same browser tab, the paste option is still grayed out.

Is that what you meant by copying in the same tab?

Ok- it does work if I start on my destination page, then leave it to go to my source page to copy the cells, then jump to my destination sheet. Almost defeats the purpose.

Dear Andree, also thank you from my side! At least now I know that something is not wrong with my computer :-)

After the launch of new Smartsheet layout, then I had to open the left pane with recent files and then switch source and destination over there without going to another browser tab. Then the copy link to cells work.

But it still doesn't work if the source cells to be copied are part of a report. It would have been much powerful if after making report, I can link copy cells in a separate file without duplicating them.

Am I right that 'Links to copied cells' does not work with cells in a report or is there something wrong in the setup at my end? Any workarounds would also be appreciated.

Unfortunately, it's not possible at the moment in reports, but it's a great idea!

Thanks for pointing that out Andre. It seems like they didn't properly test to see if everything still worked when they rolled out the new interface. Copy and pasting those links to other sheets was really nice, but having to switch back and forth this way is a pain. Hopefully they can fix this

I tried the suggestion above and it works for copying one cell at a time. Should it also work for copying one cell (source sheet) to many cells (destination sheet)?

Hi Ami,

Yes, it should, but you have to repeat the paste as special method for each cell.

Hi,

Is there a way to copy and paste data that is linked to another sheet within smartsheet and keep those links? I see it on the paste special but it's grayed out so I don't have the option, see below. Please walk me through step by step if there is a way to enable this feature within a sheet that is already created and linked to a separate sheet. Thank you!

Yes, but you have to stay in the same tab in your browser when you change between the sheets.
