PDF Viewer - Feature Request

We request the addition of a PDF viewer in the browswer window.

In our use of Smartsheet, in particular for administering the implementation of the construction of a building, the workflow would be speeded up considerably if the PDF could be viewed in the browser, rather than downnloading an opening in a separate PDF viewer, which takes some time for each row. We were imagining something like the Google Docs PDF in browser viewer.

Thank you.

    I'll 2nd that!!!!!

I am sure there must be some type of voting for feature list somewhere on here and this functionality feature must be in there.  But until I find it...I most definitely 2nd this...

Will, I think what you really want is the ability to preview/view PDFs directly from the Smartsheet app, correct? Chrome has a built in function that will open PDFs from within the browser. For example (I just tested this), I exported a sheet to PDF, clicked file at the bottom of the web browser:

If you are using Chrome and it is not opening PDFs, I would check your browser settings.

As far as previewing PDFs within the app, I will add both your votes for this enhancement request!

Yes, thanks, but I am aware of this. The goal was to do this with fewer steps, including no download.

Thank you for adding our votes!

Sometime this week I noticed that my Acrobat files/attachments simply opened when clicked on.  No download and then open the download folder or click on the bar to open the file...it just opened in a new tab.  Yes!  Less steps.  And I was using Chrome.  I don't remember changing any browser settings, it appears that Smartsheet changed how it functions for the better.  2 thumbs up!

Telco33 and Will - our last update added the functionality to view PDFs without downloading them. Now, when you click on a file in the attachment menu, it will open in a new browser tab. If you want to download, click the blue download icon next to file in the attachment menu.

What do you think of the new functionality? Cool

  • From the users that I was requesting this for: "Awesome!!!  Thanks for helping to increase our workflow!"

  • What happened to this feature?  It seems to have disappeared.

Hi David! We are experiencing issues with this feature because of an error related to the Amazon service that stores attachments saved in Smartsheet. We're working with Amazon to get this resolved as soon as possible!

  • I first reported this to technical support a week ago and I was told it had something to do with the web browser setting.  Has this functionality been fixed yet?

  • Actually I was told it was an Amazon web services issue they are working on so they had to shut it off until it is resolved.  Soon I hope as I don;t want to add google drive links to the hundreds of rows I have documents attached to.

Hi Mike-- We took a deeper look into the issue and have determined that it is a technical issue. At this point our Development team is coordinating with Amazon for resolution but we do not have a fix yet.
