Report based calculations

I would like to be able to have a calculation take place in a report that is based on numbers in cells from two different spreadsheets.  Any ideas?  Not keen on linking for this application as that would require multiple linking of new data, which would have a higher probability of user error.

This question comes up quite often and so far there is no way to do this without creating some form of workaround, which as you say, can introduce the risk of human error.

I'd recommend Cell linking from your worksheets to a Master or Portfolio sheet to get the dashboard you seek. That in turn can be viewed in a Report but the calculation will be happening in the sheet not in the report, but resultant calc can be seen in the Report.

    Hope that helps? RichardR

Thanks for your suggestion.  That is essentially what I have planned to do, but it will frequently require the addition of links as new projects are started.  Which will then turn into a need of manual "link management".  I was hoping to be able to automate that process.

  • Depending on what calculations you are trying to make, you could use the formulas the bottom right of the report. Highlight cells in a report and automatic calculations will appear at the bottom right based on what type of data you selected (min, max, avg, sum, count, etc)
