Report with only parent rows

I am new to Smartsheet and I'm trying to create a report from multiple sheets that have parent rows and child tasks.  I'm looking for a report that puts together all the sheets but only shows the parent rows from each sheet along with the information on that row - percent complete, gantt information etc.

    I've seen this done in several different ways. The way we do it is by creating a column to mark and indicate the parent rows. I.E. We develop courses and so the main task is the development of the course, and in the course column, we add the word Course to the parent row.

    Then in the report, we are pulling only rows that contain course in the course column. Which gives us all the parent rows. We also created a template for new courses which exists at the top of our sheet and the template includes that course field is included in the course column, so a simple copy and paste will ensure our course will come across in the report.

  • Thank you!  That worked for me

  • We add an indicator column to determine if the row is a parent task and then report only on the rows with the indicator checked.  This is the formula we use in the parent indictor column.

    =IF(COUNT(CHILDREN()) > 0, 1, 0)

  • Great workaround.  Thanks for sharing.
