Restricting Edit/Delete to comments

I have a sheet where collaborators discuss open issues in comments column.

This is great as we can now have the entire discussion around one row-wise subject in its comment box.

But a problem is being faced, collaborators are able to edit/delete their previously submitted comments. And that disturbs the discussion. We don't want submitted comments be edited or deleted once submitted. Can this be done? Appreciate comments and guide tiips.

Hello—

Anyone shared to the sheet with Editor-level permissions or higher has the capability of deleting their own comment. (Viewers aren't able to add comments to the sheet at all.) There currently isn't a way to restrict this to people who are shared to the sheet.

One possible workaround is to consider creating automated update requests for people to add comments. They wouldn't be able to "thread" comments by replying to someone else's comment, but you might remove people from being shared to the source sheet, then set up automated update requests based on certain criteria, including the Comments column in the update request.

Hello Shaine

Thanks for the 'work around' tip and for sharing the link. Will go thru the guide and I hope that would be a good fix.

In the meanwhile, while our group is small, but information critical, I am keeping the ability to add comments with the collaborators. This kind of gives them more freedom 'feel'. Since the team is small, at present I hope I can rely on Alerts that come to me anytime someone changes a row. That way I am able to keep a guard on unwanted activity....for the time being...Thank you
