Row ID or Link

Hello

I've seen people post about this, but I haven't found a way to use it or if there has even been an enhancement added to Smartsheet.

I'd like to be able to use a formula to insert the Row Link to a cell, which I can then access via INDEX/MATCH on another sheet.

I have a list of projects that were completed by fiscal year, one sheet for each FY. I have another sheet that lists all of our clients. I'd like for there to be a hyperlink for each project for each client created over the last few FY.

CLIENT 1

Hyperlink1 (to row in another sheet for this project completed for the client in FY 2018)

Hyperlink1 (to row in another sheet for this project completed for the client in FY 2019)

A user can click the hyperlink and go directly to the row in the other sheet to view details of the project.

The Row ID would have been automatically put in each FY sheet via formula, so it may update automatically as new rows are added to those sheet.

Any thoughts or work arounds?

    Hello,

It's currently not possible to generate a row link with the use of a formula, but please feel free to submit a Product Enhancement Request to let our Product team know that you'd like to have this functionality in Smartsheet.

A potential workaround could be to create a report that displays the Sheet Name column. When the hyperlink in the Sheet Name column is selected, you'll be re-directed to the row if it's not being hidden by a filter.

If needed, more information on reports can be found here: https://help.smartsheet.com/articles/522214-creating-reports

@Alejandra I'm wondering if there has been any changes to the availability of this function? I'd love to be about to Index/Match to a row URL on another sheet.

    Hi @Amanda Merrigan

The row URL is still unable to be referenced directly in a formula. You can use an INDEX(MATCH to pull values across sheets, but not the direct URL.

    Cheers,

    Genevieve

    Genevieve,

Following-up on this inquiry. How can I use an Index Match to pull the appropriate Row Link (URL) into another Smartsheet?

For example, Smartsheet A includes a column in which we show which pricelist is associated with that row (e.g., PriceList001 or PriceList156). Smarsheet B includes a row for 100+ pricelists. In Smartsheet A we want to have a link in each row of Smartsheet A to the corresponding pricelist in Smartsheet B. If we change the pricelist reference in Smartsheet A, the link needs to automatically change to the corresponding row (URL).

Excited to see what you propose.

    Thank you,

    John

    Hi @John Crick

There currently isn't a way to pull a row's URL (under Row Properties) from one sheet to another.

You could potentially surface the URL written out in a cell, in a helper column next to the data in Sheet B.

Then you can use this helper column as the source for your INDEX, so the formula pulls back a cell value (that happens to display the URL).

    Cheers,

    Genevieve
