Hi folks,

Wondering if I am missing s setting here. When I use the search bar - that sits across the top of your sheets on your web browser it is not finding text within a cell.

I am looking for a serial number, and in some cells there is more than 1 line of text, eg. We sold 4 units of the same type Serial Number colum woudl look like this:

1234

1235

1236

1237

If i searching for 1234 it is found (as the main text), if I search for 1236 it is not found or returned as any type of result.

Thoughts?? Have I woulnd down a setting too tight?

    Admin@PAT,

I haven't figured out the search algorithm yet.

Sometimes, it just seems to be broken.

What might be different is 1236 is either text or the result of a formula.

However, I checked both of those cases and found text/numbers like that..

You could try adding quotes around the search

    "1236" instead of 1236

I've opened up a support ticket before about searching in the past, and feel your pain.

I know of no configuration settings to change the behavior.

  • Our indexing service does take time to index sheet data to make it searchable. This is typically based on the amount of data that needs to be indexed, but to make sure that it's not constantly indexing (which would make the app terribly slow), it's been developed to only trigger indexing at certain moments.

Sometimes, you can instantly find the result you need with Search, sometimes you can't. Typically, if you change the structure of the sheet by adding new rows to the top or new columns, then save and exit the sheet, the index will be triggered and you can search for data. (Although even this trick isn't guaranteed to work.)

You can utilize Find and Replace (Ctrl + F on Windows or Cmd + F on Mac) to more quickly find what you're looking for on the sheet you currently have open.

  • Thanks for teh reply gents.

Glad I'm not going crazy and it it something that is simply a bit tricky to apply.

I work with 12 sheets that contain all Sales to customers and every once in a while I have to find a Serial Number for a Warranty request, if multiple items of the samy type were purchased this make the search almost manual scrolling through line by line.

As it isn't a dsaily occurence I can work with it for now.
