Send emails with live links other than web links

It would be great to have the hyperlink feature not just be limited to web sites.

If I could put a link to a file located on my network, I could then send a notification or send a row and the email that would be delivered would allow me to click on that link to open the file or network location locally.

Ex:

A cell has a link with the network location - F:\Test123\Backup\

I send the row to my staff.

Staff receives email and clicks through to the network folder

Anyone know of any current workarounds?

Thanks

Ian

The good news is you dont need a workaround, it is already there.

Us the Attachment column and select Link URL and provided the file is accessible on your network or on the internet eg Dropbox, Box, SharePoint etc etc then you access the file you seek.

If you wish to lock files away as highly confidential, then only allow access to those with correct credentials for a second login. We have health clients who have done this for years and it works fine for sensitive data.

    Hope that helps?

  • Thanks that works; however, there is added step of adding "file://"

Also another constraint is that the link can not be edited once attached.  As we move from move to month, the file name or folder name will be updated based on month and year.

Also, in smartsheet, a user can not simply click on the attachment to open the file locally, I have to send the row and/or attachment to email to access.

Ideally, I would be able to have the hyperlink in a cell that can be clickable.

    Thanks
