Sending emails via Outlook from Smartsheet

Either I'm being dense or this is actually impossible, but I thought I'd ask.

What my staff member wants is for the email addresses he puts into cells in Smartsheet to become essentially live mailto links (just what happens in Excel: put in an email address, it will convert it to a link that will automatically open Outlook with an email already addressed). I can see that Smartsheet is automatically converting URLs into regular links, so logically there ought to be a way to make them mailto links?

Note that I'm not looking for a way to share the row from the sheet -- the point would be that the sheet is an internal document which he can use to record email addresses for his contacts, along with other relevant information (organization, area of expertise, etc.) about that person.

Good question! Smartsheet does not support the mailto link but we are tracking feedback for this and I will add your vote for it!

Please add my vote too! The hyperlinking abilities are currently very restrictive for how I'd like to use Smartsheet. Mailto is first in line but it needs a lot of other flexibility too.

We could really use this to email clients in our orders Smartheet, that do not use Smartsheet directly. Current;ly we have to cut and paste -- time consuming when you have lots of these to send on a regular basis, Thank you!

Greg, if you want to quickly send emails from Smartsheet (send as attachment, send row, etc), add the users to your Smartsheet Contacts. Then the TO field will auto resolve their information when you start typing.

I believe the other users in this thread are looking for a mailto link which would open a new blank email in your default email client when an email address is clicked.

This would be very helpful for us as well. While a cut and paste doesn't seem to take much time, it does when you are trying to send out 100 plus individual emails from the contact sheet on SmartSheet.

I think this should open up to include any Hyperlinks, like shared network drive locations and such;

Baby steps though: add my vote for mailto: links
