Sharing a report but not the source spreadsheet

I want to share part of a spreadsheet with a subcontractor.  However, I do not want them to have access to the full sheet.

For instance, source data:

A B C D E F G H

Data to share with subcontractor.  They also need to be able to edit/update columns A, B, C.

A B C

According to the help page, this is not possible, but maybe someone has found a work-around?

Thanks :)

I too need this functionality - has anyone got a workaround?

  • I use the Update feature to send items to a individual who does not have rights to the sheet.  You can send multiple rows and ask them to update.  They will only be able to view/update the rows sent.

You can also schedule the updates which I find helpful as well.

  • If they need to edit the data, update requests will be your best bet. If they only need to view they data, you can publish a report that contains only the data they need access to or cell link the data to a new sheet and share the sheet with them.

Does anyone know if there has been any improvement to this situation? I need to do exactly the same as Daniel only mine is for an external recruitment agency. I only want them seeing and updating certain information and I thought by creating a report and sharing it, this would accomplish my goal. However, I now discover unless you share the orginal sheet they are not able to see the rows created by the report, which obviously defeats the whole purpose of creating the report with restricted rows and information. Seems like a major limitation to me, unless I'm doing something wrong.

  • Hi James-- We don't currently offer partial sheet sharing, so as Sasha mentioned above, using Update Requests will likely be your best bet. I've added your vote for partial sheet sharing to our enhancement request list!
