Smartsheet Charts with parameter

Hello Community,

 

Anyone familiair wiith the charts via https://smartsheetlabs.com/ ?

 

Is there a way to feed a chart with data without having to make a new sheet or report for every chart ?

 

Example:

- within 1 sheet I have a project which has several taks, each with planned hours and actual hours.

- in a separate website, I want to display a chart, which corresponds to a specific task, so only with the numbers of that task.

- When a new task is introduced, the ideal situation is that I feed the chart for example with https://smartsheetlabs.com/smartsheetcharts/share/<unique chart identifier>/?taskid=<unique task identifier>

- As result the same chart for different tasks can be used.

    So disclaimer up front... I've only used Smartsheet labs once or twice so I can't really help with the solution.

    You can have multiple charts pull data from a single sheet. Is that what you are asking for?

    Hi Travis,

     

    No, 1 sheet, 1 chart. Only by feeding the chart with 1 or more filters (applied to the data on the sheet), the chart shows only that filtered data.

     

    Simple Example:

    1 sheet with Buildings, Floors, Rooms, Square Meter for that room:

         HQ, 1, 101, 50

         HQ, 1, 102, 60

         HQ, 2, 205, 40

         HQ, 2, 202, 60

         A1, 1, 101, 30

         A1, 1, 102, 60

     

    1 chart which displays the total sqm:

    - when no filter applied: the result will be 300 (50+60+40+60+30+60)

    - when filter (Building=HQ) is applied, the result will be 210 (50+60+40+60)

    - when filter (Building=HQ and Floor=1) is applied, the result will be 110 (50+60)

     

    Hope this Example makes it clear. Of course I can make a chart for each filter, but then I am ending up making a possible number of charts 'lines of data x number of different filters'.

    The advantage of building a chart for each filter is that the 2nd time you view that particular combination, you have it already and it will be quicker (to access the chart than to recreate the filter).

     

    What I would like would be:

    1. ability to save filters for later use

    2. ability to run charts from reports

     

    I know a report is a nice filter, but there are things we can do with a filtered sheet that we can't do (yet) with reports.

     

    Hope this adds to the conversation.

    Thanks for clarifying - I agree that would be a good feature! At the moment, charts will include the specific data you selected when setting up the chart and cant be based on a sheet filter. 

     

    I'll pass this suggestion along to the Labs team!

    Is it possible to pass a parameter to a report using the API?

    Salenta - Are you asking if you can change the report builder from the API? The API cannot change parameters in the report builder. Here is our API documentation on reporting: https://smartsheet-platform.github.io/api-docs/#reports
