User Management Reports Now Links to Zip Files?

Hi all,

Did something change?  It used to be, when I selected Download Sheet Access Report (or User List, etc) from the User Management > More Actions menu, a .CSV file with the name and date downloaded directly to my computer.  In the past few days, that process has changed.  Smartsheet is sending an email with a link to a zip file, which I must download, unzip, and rename.  That means one step is replaced with four, which seems really counter-productive and not the typical Smartsheet efficient, single-step approach.

Did I accidentally change something somewhere?  If so, I'd really like the old way back.

Thanks!

susan

    Hi Susan,

I can assure you that no setting was changed on your end. Due to the limitations of email attachment sizes, we had to change the behavior from giving you a straight CSV to a link to a downloadable ZIP file.

Behind the scenes, a CSV was generated for you and emailed straight from Smartsheet, which can be especially large and possibly error out as it's not compressed.

With this new process, although it might take a bit longer for you, we've practically eliminated the amount of errors people were seeing across the board.

Although there currently isn't a way to manually change this process back to the way it was before, submit a Product Enhancement Request (using the form under Quick links on the right of the community site) to let our Product team know that this has become a pain point for you.

    Hi Shaine,

Thanks for the information.  It does seem, though, that the behavior used to be the file downloaded directly through my browser rather than being sent in email at all, which truly made it a one-step action.  I can understand how others had problems with large files.

I'll suggest that at minimum the file in the zip file be named uniquely rather than generically (like it is now).  At least that would save one step of needing to rename the file so multiple versions can be kept.
