Validating data input in a Form

I have set up smartsheets to collect data with forms for the users at our facilities. The operators check equipment and enter the data in the form. Sometimes, they fat finger it - or forget the decimal point which causes an out of spec condition and email notifications. Is there any way to validate the data and the user get an error message (maybe based on really out of whack conditions I would set up)???

  • Hello,

We currently don't have a way to validate data directly in a form. When you have a moment, please submit a Product Enhancement Request and let our Product team know that you'd like to have this functionality added to Smartsheet forms.

With that being said, once workaround you could try is—if you have a set number of options, try changing your Text/Number columns into Dropdown list columns and restricting values only to the Dropdown list options. More information on this is available in the help center: https://help.smartsheet.com/articles/504619-column-types

  • This is will be a plus factor in form. I am tired of telling the sales to only provide numbers on the amount field. They keep messing my formula i put in the smartsheet. Having a validation is the best approach to prevent it from happening.

  • I'm not sure if a solution was ever found for this. I have a simiar requirement. My work around whilst inelegant worked. I used a drop down single menu. Copied and pasted from excel 350 numbers which took seconds. So not great but it is working. If any data vaialdation updates have been provided plese let me know as I can't find a post in the community. thanks
