Sharing Dashboard, report and sheet viewing issues - Report shows blank

I'm running into an issue with dashboard sharing and report access. I've shared a SmartSheet dashboard with my internal team, along with the report feeding the dashboard widget and the underlying source sheet. The goal is for team members to click on the report widget from the dashboard and be able to edit a comment field directly in the report.

I have shared the all of the above with edit - can share acccess.

However, when they click the report widget, they’re only seeing a blank SmartSheet—no data, no fields. My team doesn’t currently have SmartSheet accounts, but they’re able to create one if needed.

I experimented with the publishing settings but reverted them back to “not published,” as I suspect publishing may have triggered view-only access when interacting with the report widget.

Has anyone encountered this before or found a workaround that allows users to edit report content via the dashboard widget? Any help would be appreciated!

I gave them viewing access to the dashboards and edit-share level for the reports and sheet. I have not ticked the notification box when sharing just to try and avoid editing to the underlying sheet which is my master sheet, even though i guess if they will see it on the left hand side workspace panel.

I rather not share…But if you guys can confirm to me that this set up its correct, i could carry on investigating as I think there might be also an account issue since people in the company uses different emails.

Set up: Not Published Dashboards, shared to team in viewing mode, report feeding widgets shared in editing-can share mode, underlying sheet (master) shared with editing-can share.

I might have a couple of users externally to my company though. in those cases, I guess I will have to change Dashboard to Publishing if I want them to be able to view them, but how about the reports feeding the dash widgets and underlying master sheet, should i also publish them? wouldnt that cause my internal team to only have viewing access to the reports i need to the be able to edit?
