Extract GPS Data from Images taken within the App

We would like to use the SS App to undertake inspections of assets (Roads). Whilst I understand that I can include a GPS marker in our Form, it would be more useful for our team to be able to take the photo in the app, assign it to the row of data (which SS currently does) and then export the photo from the ios Photo App and retain the GPS data (which it currently doesn't do).

We have typically taken site photos, uploaded them to Google Photos and then imported these site photos to My Maps on Google - a really effective tool to see the condition of roads in remote locations where Street View doesn't exist.

Is anyone aware of how to use the SS Form, but also retain the GPS metadata in the photos? It seems that most apps strip all the metadata from images taken "in-app."

Hi @Richard Heath,

I’ve been able to determine that Brandfolder processes all images uploaded and the information is displayed on the metadata tab of the asset (take a look here for more information), so perhaps using Brandfolder could be a way to view the GPS data from images, but I’m not sure this would help with exporting the images and retaining the data.

There currently isn't a direct way to retain image metadata when uploading images through forms or when exporting images. When you have a moment, please submit your feature request to the Product team by creating an Idea Post in the Smartsheet Product Feedback and Ideas topic here in the Community. This will allow other users to vote on your enhancement idea!
