I am a Project Manager, and am currently helping my team plan a new project.
Most of the activities are not inter-dependent on one another, they all just need to happen before the deadline.
There is one task however, about a month in duration, which is high priority and needs to be done ASAP. It is dependent though on receiving components, so I'm not sure which month this activity is going to occur, but as soon as the components arrive it should be started and everything else assigned to the individual responsible should be delayed until after it is done.
Basically, I want smartsheet to automatically push back tasks after this month long task for this individual. The activities are not directly dependent on one another, so using dependencies isn't my preference. If the components are delayed, the individual can still work on her other tasks until they arrive. As soon as they arrive though, all her other tasks should be delayed until after she finishes this high priority one.
I am currently accomplishing this by manually adjusting the dates based on our estimated time when the components will arrive. I have also tried blocking the dates off as holidays, but then that impacts everyone's tasks and not just the relevant individual.
I do not have the Resource Management tool, so maybe there is a way to do it with that add-on.
Does anyone know if there is a more elegant way to handle this type of issue? This is not an isolated situation, and I would like to be able to handle it better in the future.
