Hi everyone
I have a template saved in a workspace but can't see how I can edit this - can anyone help please?
Thanks!
DW
Hi DW,
Unfortunately, you can't edit a template. You have to either edit the original sheet (if you still have it) or make a new sheet of the template and edit that and then replace the old template with the new.
I hope this helps you!

Thank you so much!
Happy to help!
Smartsheet also has a Control Center add-on. It costs a little extra, but allows you to update templates as well as any old sheets created from the template across the board.
How does this impact the sheets that's already created using the template? My understanding is that it'll push through the changes, however, if it's a project plan and there are changes specifically to that project, would the change in template over-ride?
So I recently downloaded the Project Template: This is exactly what I want with some changes, however it seems there some items "locked out" or something. The formula in the "Project metadata" sheet can't be converted, (formula syntax error) and if I overwrite the template's "project name" I get no match. In trying to check the reference I get
So, am I expected to use this template as a model and generate my own sheets/dashboards/reports etc.? I'm the owner of the workspace the template resides in. I'm replying here as it's a similar template question.
Thanks

Andrée,
Safe and well, just hot, lol (Arizona). I continued to play around with the template, I even deleted everything and downloaded it again, then followed the directions exactly. Two things of note: One, if I change anything in the Project Intake Sheet, it does not reflect in the linked Project Metadata sheet.
Project Intake Sheet:
Project Meta Sheet (even after repasting the Row ID)
Second, if I use the Intake form, all seems well, it creates a new project and row ID just fine.
However pasting that row ID into the Project Metadata sheet, gives me this:
Pasting it into the line below doesn't work either, because the following rows have no formulas.
OK I thought, make the formula (below, an index match) a column formula.
=INDEX({Portfolio Summary Data}, MATCH($[Project ID]@row , {Project ID}, 0), MATCH([Project Name]$1, {Portfolio Summary Header Row}, 0))
But that gives me this:
Weird, but sure, I mean it doesn't seem to be working does it? What about the references? It's a type of Index/Match I haven't used, and further I can't seem to find the sheets, so assuming they are reference names, not sheet names, I try to look at the referenced sheets, by clicking on "edit reference" links in the formula.
That results in this error:
So am I just missing something in the instructions? Is there more I have to build out to make this work?
I don't mean to hijack someone else's topic, but it seems editing a template is where I'm finding myself. I fully admit that working with this set of sheets will be stretching my abilities with SmartSheet coding (but we always want to stretch right?) but this is exactly what I need for a new functional rollout. I mean it couldn't be more prefect.
Hello, I use Smartsheet in such way that people are asked to provide data on many records and then that data needs to be approved by one other person (always the same person). I would like to set up an automation that, each morning, checks to see if there are records waiting to be approved, and if there are, sends an…
I have a workspace that I created with two subfolders. A user needs to have access to only one of them but when I have that folder selected, I can only share the entire workspace with them. Is there a secret way that I can share the parent folder and ensure that any new files created will be shared with the same people? I…
I already have a Smartsheet license with my company, but I was recently invited to collaborate on a sheet owned by another group within the same organization. When I accepted, I was told I need to upgrade in order to edit or contribute. Can you please explain why this is required? It seems unreasonable to need multiple…
