how can i find the closest number in a column which is greater than a particular number in smartsheet

You would use a MIN/COLLECT combo.
=MIN(COLLECT(Numbers:Numbers, Numbers:Numbers, @cell > 5))
The above will pull the number from the Numbers column that is closest to 5 but greater than 5.
