Why does my SUMIF formula return "0" please?

I always run into trouble with formula when one of the cells is the result of a previous lookup. What am I doing wrong please? Thanks for your help.

    Hi @NJCunliffe

I hope you're well and safe!

Try removing the apostrophes around 08.

    "08"

    Did that work/help?

    I hope that helps!

Be safe, and have a fantastic week!

  • Thank you for trying to help me:-).

With or without 08 or "08" the formula returns 0 as a result implying that it cannot find either 08 or "08". My gut feel is that it is blind to the criteria cell value as it is a formula result rather than a value.

    =SUMIF([53 ⬛ 05 Period]:[53 ⬛ 05 Period], 08, [40 🟦 Actual Duration \[MINS\]]:[40 🟦 Actual Duration \[MINS\]])

    =SUMIF([53 ⬛ 05 Period]:[53 ⬛ 05 Period], "08", [40 🟦 Actual Duration \[MINS\]]:[40 🟦 Actual Duration \[MINS\]])

Both formula return the same result but it should be a big number. When I write a report, I get the correct result. Trying the sheet formula in summary fails.

    @NJCunliffe

    Happy to help!

Try something like this. (remove the 0, so it's only 8.

    =SUMIF([53 ⬛ 05 Period\]:\[53 ⬛ 05 Period]:[53 ⬛ 05 Period\]:\[53 ⬛ 05 Period], 8, [40 🟦 Actual Duration \\\[MINS\\]:[40 🟦 Actual Duration \\\[MINS\\])

  • Thanks for trying. No joy.

The saga continues for me and Smartsheet formulas.

I am now stuck on trying to get the time difference between 08/11/2022 10:00:00 08/11/2022 20:28:31 as the result of a formula and have again lost many hours. Give me excel any day for formulas!

    Thanks again :-)
