'Lock' a sheet summary field or workaround for a copy-and-pastable value?

Hi folks,

I have a sheet summary field that pulls a value into my sheet from another sheet. It's a weblink although in theory it could be anything that someone might want to copy and paste rather than just read.

The link pulls through as expected but when my users (who are editors, for they are required to edit other items in the sheet) click in the field to copy it into their browsers, the text switches to my formula and the link is rendered un-copy-and-paste-able.

Is anyone aware of a workaround for this irritation?

Thanks.

If your collaborators are only Editors, then you can lock the Summary field so only the Display Value shows and they can copy/paste that content:

Although this field will still open up when an Admin or sheet Owner clicks on it, this will restrict the value for Editors so hopefully will help with your process!

    Hi Genevieve,

Thanks for the response. The field IS locked but still exposes the formula when my users click in it. I am the only Admin/Owner on the sheet. Everyone else is an Editor. So this is not expected behaviour, right?

    Thank you,

    Jim

    Hi @Jim B

Would you be able to post a screen capture of what your Editors see? I'm unable to replicate what you're describing; as long as they're not Admins and the field is Locked, for me it appears in the Summary as plain text without even a box/field to click on, like so:

    Editor View:

    Admin View:

Hi Genevieve, We fixed this now. I'm not sure how but one of the summary fields had become unlocked which was exposing the formula. Thanks for looking into it for me. Jim
