Auto Number function not populating in numerical order

Hello,

Does any one know how to fix an auto number column that is not populating in numerical order?

See below screen shot, the 'Box number' column in an auto number column and when I populate the assigned to or the model cells the box number does not always populate the next number.

i would appreciate anyone's comments :-)

It will never duplicate a number on the sheet if it is an Auto-Number type column even after a number has been deleted. So if you delete the row containing 2447 and then enter a new row anywhere on the sheet, the next number that would be generated would be 2448 even though 2447 no longer exists on the sheet.

Thank you for your comment @Paul Newcome i understand that it will not create duplicates however I want it to go in numerical order. I have not deleted any rows to make it act like this.

It should be going in order. Are you the only one working in the sheet? Are you inserting new rows at the top or in the middle of the sheet instead of always at the bottom?

Yes i am and i only every add a row at the bottom.
