Update a date filed with another date automatically

Is there a way to update a date field automatically if a date is put in another filed?

Currently we have an event date in the column, but I would like it to update if someone requests an alternate date. Is that possible?

Yes, but you'd add multiple so-called helper columns with the dates and then have a formula in the used column to show one of the helper columns.
