End of Line Characters and automated API Reports

Our IT is getting automated reports with our API Key from Smartsheet and has sent me the following email / question:

The end of line character in the file is also a line feed (LF), instead of line feed + carriage return (CR) that is common. This causes confusion for the processing, as when processing the file, it is not clear if the LF character means end of line, or is part of the text.

Is there a setting in the report within Smartsheet that allows you to specify the end-of-line character? E.g. set it to CR (ASCII character 13).

Green arrow: LF that that means end of-line.

Red arrow: LF that is part of the value in the field.

Any guidance or help would be appreciated.

I don't believe there's a setting to specify the end-of-line character, however I have to admit I haven't seen this before so there may be an alternate solution that I am unaware of.

If your IT team needs further help with this, it would be useful to know exactly what it is they're doing (which API call they're using, what language, what software was used, and what type of Smartsheet item they're accessing - report, workspace, sheet, event reporting, etc). I see that you've contacted Support about this, so you can follow-up directly on that ticket if you want to provide that information through a private channel.

In the meantime, here's the API Documentation in case that helps.

    Cheers,

    Genevieve
