Is there a formula to count how many times todays date is entered into a sheet?

There's the problem. The LEFT function outputs a text string that only looks like the date. Try the DATEONLY function instead and change the column type to a date type column.

Thanks Paul this seems to have worked.
Now my issue is that the date created and auto Date Only don't match.

All good I've gone with a workaround using Record Date Automation.
