Multi-Sheet & Few Clicks

I have an assessment sheet where 2 different rating columns are linked to the rating key at the top of the column. Would it be possible have the Rating Key Sheets linked or formulated so that when a rating is selected on the key, it'll enter it into the cell on the Assessment sheet?

Does anyone have any suggestions / best practices for quickly viewing Rating Keys and Enter your rating on a separate sheet without adding additional "clicking" time?

Hi Laura,

You can create cell links out from one of your sheets to the others so that when a value changes on one of them, it'll automatically update the others with that new value. Details on this in the Cell Linking article.

I use cell linking. This is different.

I have an assessment sheet with a hyperlink to a rating key sheet.

I'd like to confirm whether or not it is possible to click on any number on the Rating Key and have it populate a designated field on the assessment sheet.

I don't think its possible but I've been asked how we could shorten the "click time" in having to:

click on the rating key link in the assessment sheet
review the rating key sheet
go back to the assessment sheet
enter the desired rating number.

If its not possible, I'm looking for suggested alternated methods / work arounds / best practices.

Hi Laura,

There currently isn't a way to conditionally populate a field on one sheet when a value is selected on another. The closest functionality to this is cell linking, but that's a manual process and blank cells can't be linked.

Later this year we're hoping to release cross sheet formulas, which would allow you to build an IF statement that could reduce the clicks for your users, but until then there isn't another way to further streamline the process that doesn't involve using the API.

Based on this:

click on the rating key link in the assessment sheet
review the rating key sheet
go back to the assessment sheet
enter the desired rating number.

Somewhere on the assessment sheet:

1. add link OUT to the rating key sheet.

2. add link IN from the rating key sheet.

It will link from this:

3 Add a LOOKUP table to find your rating key. The input will be linked in cell (1) above.

Now you won't need to go to the other sheet to the find the value. Just enter what your search value in (1). (3) will refresh and return the value to you in (2).
