How to address column restriction error and value does not conform to req for PICKLIST?

Within Data Shuttle, 4 days ago I started having Data Shuttle workflows that would not work. I am trying to upload data from an excel sheet that is housed in one of my other Smartsheets. The workflow error states "Unable to update row in target sheet : CELL_VALUE_FAILS_VALIDATION: The value for cell in column 9950538889 did not conform to the strict requirements for type PICKLIST." I have restarted all Smartsheets, tried remapping the workflows, and I can't get it to work. This error is happening on other Data Shuttle workflows/different sheets also. I also have an additional error on other sheets that states "Failed to insert 1 row because the columns in the target sheet are restricted. Please review your column settings." How do you determine which column is 9950538889? What is a PICKLIST? I also have no idea what made columns restricted. How do you make them unrestricted? I am not using any APIs, just Data Shuttle uploads/downloads to move data around numerous sheets. Thanks for any help you can give.

  • Not sure why Smartsheets all of a sudden had issues, but the problems were associated with date and drop down columns being restricted to dates only, and only drop down items. Had to turn all of them off. Seems to be working so far.

Same thing happened to me. Followed jghrum's solution and it worked. Have not looked to ensure the dates (within Smartsheet from Data Shuttle) are now consistently "dates" vs. "text".

Same thing is happening to me, but it is a normal text field with restriction on the dropdown values, which are all text. I checked the sheet and they are all valid values that would be on the dropdown options.

I had to disable all column value restrictions as well.

Can someone from Smartsheet confirm if this is a bug and if so, when can this be resolved?

As others have stated, this validation issue showed up unexpectedly this week (for me with one workflow on 10/30 and another on 10/31).

Restricting to dates is the preferred setting for the affected columns, so it would be helpful to understand if the root cause is a bug or a feature enhancement.

Very nice to see this community process in action, starting with @jshrum posting the issue. Was reassuring not to waste a lot of my time thinking the problem was internal. Thanks to @Genevieve P. and the rest for the fast fix.
